Reverse Die Crack E

This multi-segment die crack is is present in both the ring and the core. The primary segment runs vertically from the top of the O in DOLLARS to the N in CANADA where it makes a slight bend to the left before reaching the edge. The two secondary segments are horizontal in the core, the first running from the left edge to the primary segment at the bear's belly, and the second running right from the primary segment to just above the bear's eye.

Tertiary segments exist in the ring between the core and the edge of the coin at the 2, C, N, D and A positions. The crack at the D is notably faint.

This die crack also features a dark "S" marking at the lower right of the first A in CANADA.

Reverse Die Crack E is found on coins dated 1996, 2004, 2005 and 2006.

This is a progressive die crack and is found in four varieties:

  • E1: The cracks are quite faint, exist only in the core and usually do not reach the ring.
  • E2: Core cracks are stronger, reach or cross into the ring. Cracks at C, N and A are present.
  • E3: Crack at D is present.
  • E4: Crack at 2 is present.
