Plated Nunavut Toonies

Nunavut Toonies

In early 2025, a new variety of counterfeit $2 coin emerged, with several examples being found in circulation in Ontario. Little if anything is known as to the origin, quantity or distribution of these fake coins at this time.

Like the curious "Z Dollard Toonies", these counterfeit toonies appear to have plated rings with brass cores. However, they feature none of the characteristic deliberate changes such as the walrus, portrait and text. This is a close, yet poor, replica of a genuine 1999 Nunavut circulating comemmorative toonie.
